The Dragon Impireacht
Empire & Emperor
By ancient pacts with the Old Gods, every five hundred years young dragons are hatched and older dragons duel for power. Hatchings and duels together form a year-long holiday called the Vigil.
Anywhere from one to five thousand wyrmlings are born in a Vigil and nearly as many die. Thus overall population growth in the Impireacht remains low.
The Dragon Empire is a strictly hierarchical monarchy. It is green, prosperous, and organized by strict and complicated laws of Agecaste and Colorcaste.
Emperor Sarpe is a dragon of grand ambition.
Half-Dragons & Dragonborn
Very old dragons have access to ancient magic. They can change their shape and due to their magical nature they can breed with nearly any species.
Half-Dragons are first or second generation cross-breeds. They occupy a second rung of Impireacht society. Half-dragons can become quite influential in the military as ground troops and field generals.
Dragonborn form a third and final level of the social hierarchy. All are descended from at least one half-dragon ancestor so long ago that they are now a separate species altogether. Most dragonborn outside the Impireacht shun the empire.
Locations of Note
The Dragon Empire is bordered on the north by the Great Way, on the west by the Peaks of Tu-Ka, to the south by hills, and to the east by ocean.
Serpent Wood is a forest thousands of miles across in any direction. It is home to thousands of dragons, who keep the Wood stocked as a game reserve. Hunting and feeding in the Serpent Wood is strictly regulated.
The Golden Bluffs are two tall hillsides sweeping up to mesas miles above sea level. The east bluff is home to metallic dragons; the west bluff is occupied by chromatic.
Great Plains to the south are home to many of the half-dragon and dragonborn in the Impireacht, as well as to many red and bronze dragons. It is rumored that a reclusive sub-race of halflings lives in warrens beneath the Great Plains.
High Roost is a shining crystal palace peaked by three mirrored towers that catch the light of the rising sun in a brilliant bacon guiding ships from across the World. It is the palace of the Imparat and a thriving, if dangerous, port.
